Autodesk Releases Revit 2019

Autodesk released the latest version of its modeling software, “Revit 2019” on April 11, 2018. The updates in Revit 2019 are a result of the suggestions and feedback provided by the users on the Revit Ideas page. It added some great and lucrative features across three main categories of Design, Optimize, and Connect.

Addition of the “Or” Variable In Filters

The most famous demand or request on the Revit Ideas Page was for “view graphics” with the “or” option added to view filters. This feature gives users flexibility and power over setting up custom views and a better modeling environment with more immersive 3D features.

Double fill patterns

Autodesk Revit 2019 includes many new design features, including new double fill pattern (foreground and background) files and a library of more realistic renderings of textures for materials like carpets, ceilings, concrete, glass, leather, etc.

Support for Multiple Monitors

Today, the user works with multiple views open at once and are looking for better ways to manage them.  Therefore, Revit 2019 has new Tabbed Views which deliver a modern experience that lets user maximize their working space. Also, it now allows the user to drag views out of the Revit application window to secondary monitors as a means to adjust user’s working space as per their requirement.

Levels in 3D

Revit 2019 supports new levels in 3D views feature, which enables users to visualize building levels in orthographic and perspective 3D views. The user can arrange and organize views exactly as per their requirements. It also adds uncropped perspective to the new version which allows brings them immersive 3D experience without boundaries.

Split Railings

Revit 2019 incorporates the split tool to split railings with a single click. Users can now have separate path sketches for disparate elements. This new release makes it easier for the users to build complicated railings and pipe networks.

Extended Global Capabilities

Revit 2019 has an entirely new content library for Architects and Engineers. The main component is new content that facilitates multidisciplinary workflow capabilities. This new feature makes Revit work better for users in DACH countries like Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

In an interview with Architosh, Chris Yanchar, Director, Building Design Products at Autodesk, stated that the continuous user feedback and requests helped Revit 2019 to enhance its designing features and optimize user workflow.

What’s new in Revit 2018

The 2018 release of Revit has introduced some amazing features for the users. These features will enable the designers to model a complete, consistent, and coordinated designs for multiple disciplines. These features have the extensibility to both detailing and construction. The list of features are:

Co-ordinated Models

The new Revit feature, now allows the users to link their NWC or NWD files of the coordination models that are generated on Navisworks®. This feature can be helpful to compare the non-Revit and Revit model.

Scheduled Groups and Revit Links

The users can now select the fields that appear in the schedule on the Fields tab of Schedule Property Dialog Box. Also, the new feature allows the Revit experts to include the elements from a linked model.

Global Parameters

In the 2018 Revit updates, the experts can now embed designs with project-wide parameters. Furthermore, these parameters can now work with equality constraints and diameter and radial dimensions.

Multistory Stairs

The new feature of stairs allows the users to create multistory stairs by selecting the levels of the building. These stairs adjust automatically when the heights are changed. These stairs can be created from the existing stairs even at a later stage.

Railings

The new railing feature allows the users to modify the railing by chaining its height, shape, and number. Also, the path of the railing can be customized through sketch tools.

MEP Fabrication Model

The 2018 updates allow the experts build a run of connected MEP fabrication parts automatically by just clicking on the points of the model. The selection of the parts is automatic from the current fabrication service and group.

MEP Design and Analysis

With the help of the new updates in Revit, the users can now manipulate the pathways of the circuit. Also, the updates in MEP design and analysis allows the users to define their own type of space. They can also include the requirements of outdoor air.

Rebar for Complex Geometry

The latest rebar updates allow the placement of rebar as concrete objects that are of free-form. Also, it allows the reinforcement of concrete elements that are imported and their varying rebar distribution is improved.

These are just a glimpse of updates in Revit 2018. There are many more interesting features such as Rebar Graphical Constraints in 3D, Additional Steel Connections, Collaboration for Revit, Work-sharing, Parametric components, and much more.

AECOsim Vs Revit Architecture

Many organizations have been using Building Information Software (BIM Tools) across teams of engineers, project managers as well as cost consultants in designing infrastructures. Revit and AECOsim are two renowned BIM tools in the market. Choosing one among the two is a difficult task.

Why Revit? Why AECOsim?
  • Revit is easy to use and thus to master it takes a short time.
  • The “seamless” interaction has made Revit an industry standard.
  • With a good customer support, Revit is often ahead of AECOsim.
  • Being an industry standard, Revit holds more employment opportunities.
  • AECOsim is more robust and has more capabilities compared to Revit.
  • Coordination with navigator becomes easier with AECOsim.
  • The software and training expense are cheaper than Revit.
  • Unlike Revit, AECOsim is more interoperable and scalable.

Both the products have been designed to offer supreme designing capabilities. However, when it comes to market reach, they have their own strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, the selection of the right tool depends on the field of work and the requirements.

Look through feature set for Revit Architecture 2015

Speclookifically built for Building Information Modelling (BIM), Revit empowers construction and design professionals to bring ideas from concept to construction with a coordinated and consistent model based approach. Revit Software delivers BIM tools for architectural design, MEP Engineering, Structural engineering and construction, enabling coordination between various disciplines.
All software tools and programs always have requests to improve to bridge efficiency or technical gaps. With Revit 2015, Autodesk took note on all the feedbacks and acted on those, making Revit a version the users will be pleased to have. Following are some of the significant changes Autodesk took to reform Revit 2015 for Architecture.

Visualization Improvements

Sketchy Lines- This is a most awaited feature of Revit 2015. Revit can now, in all views, replicate the effect of hand sketching. Users will be able to set the jitter and extension controls with simple clicks to soften the appearance of the Revit Model for situations where a subtler image is needed.

Anti-Aliasing- Revit 2015 has been improved to remove the jagged lines you always hated. The new Revit 2015 allows all the views to use this feature and this works in an amazing manner.

Family Parameter Improvement

Tooltips- Many times Rivet experts create complex families and define parameters that control these families. Unfortunately, most Revit users are not supervised by their BIM Managers helping them understand how or what each parameter is doing. With Revit 2015, users are now provided with notes on each parameter defining how it works and how it should be used.

Scheduling Improvements- Schedulers in Revit are powerful tools to manage, display and quantify Building Information with quality control elements in the model. Now users can directly import images into Revit Content using Image Type (Type Parameter) & Image (Instance Parameter). These parameters are useful for either loadable families like furniture, light fixtures etc. or system families such as floors, walls, ceilings, etc.

Usability Improvements

Multiple Trim/ Extend Selection-In the previous versions of Revit tool, made users select individual items to extend or trim while using Trim/ Extend tool. Revit 2015 now allows users to select all the elements using a window that needs to be extended.

With the previous versions of Revit, the task of drawing revision cloud was a work full of hassle with all the clicking required to place each arc segment. Revit 2015, now allows users to use the basic drawing tools, including lines, arcs, eclipses and rectangles to quickly define boundaries for the Revision Cloud.

building
Tag Behavior- Users began to rely heavily on tagging elements as Revit experienced improvements in the past. The previous versions of Revit had a tedious method to tag elements, catering to that, Revit 2015 has introduced tag leaders that behave like text. The angled segment adjusts automatically while moving them in views to the tag’s placement.

These are some of the new improved feature sets that are incorporated in Revit 2015 keeping in mind the reviews and feedbacks and requests from the active Revit users. Hopefully these changes will greatly impact all Revit users making their workflow better.
