5 Awesome Things Scientists Do With Lasers

Lasers are the cool and amazing light beams that make us excited. You can see them in a meeting room pointing to an object, or you can even play with them in your home. Lasers may seem pretty recent inventions, but they are with us for over half a century. The laser technology is not only cool but also, they are really useful in the field of science and technology. Below are five awesome things that the scientists can do with the lasers.

Optical Levitation: Lasers are powerful enough to levitate stuff. Photons that make up the light exert a force which is known as the radiation pressure. This pressure is so powerful that it can overcome the gravitational force to make an object levitate.

Optical Tweezers: The radiation pressure, as discussed above can be used to make optical tweezers to manipulate objects. The technology can affect objects as small as an atom.

Laser Cooling: Lasers can work as coolants too. Lasers are capable of cooling things down by reducing the momentum of atoms or molecules.

Fusion: The laser technology can recreate the environmental conditions which are found in the core of the Sun in the laboratory. Lasers can heat materials up to extremely high temperatures – about a million degrees. Atoms at these temperatures break down to form a soup of ions and electrons. Such a phenomenon causes fusion releasing a high amount of energy. This method can lead to clean power generation in huge amounts.

Image Biological Reactions: You can make little science movies with an x-ray laser. Having a very short wavelength, they can capture images of stuff as small as an individual atom. Lasers can take snapshot images of even molecular reactions very quickly. Such a method helps researchers learn biological reactions in detail.

Therefore, lasers have different uses and strengths, applicable for industrial purposes to medical profession bringing a broad scope of this technology.

Now, you can make sketches using a touch-enabled pen. The application even supports customized mouse gestures making it more user-friendly and interesting to use.

Adding Granular Details: SOLIDWORKS 2018 has come up with new capabilities to work with assemblies such as Adding Mates Between Hidden Surfaces, Misaligned Mates, and Smart Explode Line Tool. The application has also introduced a new Tab and Slot feature for the sheet metal design. Now you can create the inspection documentation directly from 3D models.

CAM Integration: The most promising feature that SOLIDWORKS 2018 brought about is the CAM integration. The feature is called SOLIDWORKS CAM and works as a new application. The capability leverages CAM technology which is pretty interesting software in itself. Such integration will automate the entire manufacturing programming.

Enhancing the Complete Cycle: SOLIDWORKS 2018 comes with an integrated approach that works with your product right from design to manufacturing. This is done by putting the part or the assembly model in the Centre of the action. The concurrent collaboration capabilities of SOLIDWORKS 2018 keeps the data well managed so that you can create a design using manufacturing strategy across the product development workflow.

Ease in CNC Programming: The application has come up with new part and assembly machining, a 2.5 axis milling, and two-axis turning features. Such a feature is capable to make CNC (computer numerical control) programming less time consuming and simple.

Automating the Manual Inspection Process: The revised version of SOLIDWORKS has automated inspection capabilities. This feature helps you to save time skipping the manual inspection process. Dassault now claims that the 2018 version can carry out the article inspection process and generate reports in minutes.

Dealing with the corrupted files: If your repair attempts fail to resolve a corrupted file, SOLIDWORKS 2018 now prompts you to extract your geometrical details if data about the body is still intact. You can use this extracted data to create a new model.

Could Artificially Intelligent – Computers Replace Programmers In The Future?

Machines and computers already started replacing the human beings since a few decades or even centuries. But behind all these replacements are the programmers who developed such software. Moreover, as the technology is evolving the focus on Artificial Intelligence has also evolved. The emergence of such technology has automated a lot of work streams, snatching the jobs of many people. However, there is a constant doubt if the artificial intelligence will replace the programmer in the future.

What is A.I.?

As known, the Artificial Intelligence is a very much advanced form of technology. Moreover, the name itself suggests, the technology tends to work like a human being with the sense of its own judgment. Right now the artificial intelligence is in the development stage and are not as strong and expected. A strong A.I. has the smartness and the capability of an adult human being.

Currently, the major companies owning the weak A.I systems are following the strategy to combine the weak A.I systems to make them look strong.

Will A.I. Replace Programmers?

The developing nature of A.I. has puzzled the programmers about their replacement in the near future. The answer to the question is “yes.” Eventually, the artificial intelligence will replace the programmers in the future. However, by the time A.I. replaces the programmers, the society will get acquainted with such societal change. Some of the examples,

  • Self-driving cars will replace the paid drivers.
  • Telemarketers will be replaced by automated robot-calls.
  • Automated AI and surveys will replace market research analysts.

The industry for programming robots is going to be huge in the future. In fact, it is already a large industry. If a server is considered as an information robot, then the industry for robots is already available. The physical robots are a very big industry today, and the Internet of Things is going to be a massive industry in the near future.

The A.I. replacing the programming is, however, a little far and will take its own time. However, in the near future, the programmers would take help from Artificial Intelligence by using Artificial Intelligence code to improve the programming efficiency. It is very good at helping the programming and will replace the programmers at a point where Artificial Intelligence is very strong.

Unconventional courses are the future, traditional streams have hit a low!

Engineering and MBA have become the main stream of courses that most of the students desire. However, they do not offer the worth as their name suggests. Recently, a survey of MBA and Engineer students, identified that only 7% of the MBA and engineering students are employable. The rest, if placed, earn less than ten thousand per month. These traditional courses have been affected a lot in the global market. The students are greatly discouraged due to such stats.

The End of Traditional Courses

A faculty of IIM, Varsha Khander, said “Yes, many streams in engineering, such as Mechanical Electrical, and Chemical have reached a point of stagnation. There are very few jobs in the market, and they are not very exciting. Traditional MBA has also reached its tipping point. There is a clear mismatch in the demand and supply. Students are looking for fresh courses that will rule the job market in the coming years”. Thus, students are shifting from traditional to unconventional courses. “I want to perhaps study Spa Management, let’s see who offers that. Or else, have to move abroad,” says, Vinith Kumar, a student of a Top International.

New Unconventional Courses

Some institutions have lately gained awareness for the demand of unconventional subjects. For example, iNurture in Bangalore has partnered with Golden Valley Education Trust and Europe’s Galileo Educational Network to provide new-age global programs to Indian UG and PG students.
